In finance, the term "present value" is used to describe what all of tomorrow's cash flows are worth today. It's also a fair description of what we do here: take the noise around companies, markets, and economies, and discount it down to what actually matters right now.

Finance is too important to be left opaque. So much of what shapes our lives — the companies we work for, the prices we pay, the wealth we build (or don't) — runs on a language most people were never taught to read. We want to change that, and we'd like you to come along.

Company deep dives. We take companies apart and study the fundamentals — financial statements, business models, valuation — using publicly available data we've crunched and validated ourselves. We gravitate toward tech and finance, but no industry is off limits.

The bigger picture. We zoom out to make sense of economies — what the data reveals about growth, inequality, and the forces shaping the markets and companies we follow.

News, with perspective. When something meaningful happens in markets or the wider economy, we'll write about it and tell you what we think it means.

Learning. Clear, plain-language explainers of the concepts and vocabulary of finance, economics, accounting, and investing.
